Customizable Atmospheric Fog

The Fog Manager was built to give artists more creative control over fog effects in Unreal Engine. Standard fog tools are usually pretty limited, mostly just adjusting the overall density. This tool changes the game by letting users control everything from fog height and depth to opacity, adding a richer, more realistic atmosphere to scenes.

Controls

Each fog attribute—height, depth, and opacity—can be fine-tuned individually using curve adjustments. Each curve channel controls a specific aspect of the fog, allowing for precise customization. This makes it possible to create effects like denser fog along the ground or on the right side of a scene, giving you much greater control over the atmosphere.

How it Works

The Fog Card Manager uses a combination of Blueprint scripting and custom materials to bring flexible fog control to Unreal Engine. The material setup leverages scene depth to adjust fog density based on distance, the depth based world position is calculated to create realistic ground-level relitive fog effects. Through the Blueprint, artists can easily adjust textures, colors, curve graphs, and wind variables, allowing for quick and intuitive tweaks to the fog's appearance and behavior.
